The current EU legislation regarding animal transport is far beyond unacceptable and the position of European Commission not to change it is extremely disappointing.

Long animal transports not only cause severe suffering to animals but are also harmful to the environment due to the GHG emissions. Moreover local economy is hampered due to the presence of cheap meat in the market which often comes from remote regions or from other countries, but is alleged to be domestic.

We need to stop this. I support an 8-hour transport limit and I urge EU citizens to sign the 8hours campaign. After all, as Mahatma Gandhi once said “you can judge a nation by the way they treat their animals ".
